Seals are used to separate two fluids, either or both of which
may be liquid or gas and may or may not involve a pressure
gradient across the seal. They can be divided into basic groups
: static or dynamics – rotating or reciprocating. Initial
selection will be based on the basis of dynamic and static types
before other parameters such as sealed fluid, sealed pressure,
speed, temperature and cost are taken into account.
